KUALA LUMPUR: A man who used a metal bar to rough up two people at Taman Danau Desa here has been arrested.
Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Amihizam Abdul Shukor said police were alerted to the incident after a one-minute-and-26-second video was circulated on Twitter on Thursday (Aug 3).
"A 48-year-old man also lodged a police report on the incident, which allegedly occurred at around 9.55am on July 31.
"We immediately investigated (the case) for voluntarily causing hurt using a weapon," he said in a statement on Friday (Aug 4).
ACP Amihizam said based on investigations, police arrested a 45-year-old male suspect on the same day.
"We have remanded the suspect for three days to assist investigations.
"We urge the public to refrain from speculating on the incident (based on) the video that has been circulating online," he added.
The clip shows a man, clad in shorts and armed with a metal bar, approaching another man who is seen picking up a traffic cone and shoving it in his direction.
A voice can be heard in the background saying “Don't” as the two men confront each other.
The man in shorts continued approaching the other man, who was seen backing away.
The former then swung the metal bar, hitting the man wearing a light blue shirt until the latter lost his balance and fell.
The two men can be heard exchanging profanities before the man in shorts tells the person holding the camera to watch their words before hitting her with the bar, causing her to drop the recording device on the ground.
