Report against Peja withdrawn

But probe into allegation that he was defamed to go on, say cops

PETALING JAYA: Police are investigating claims by Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu that he was defamed in a viral police report, says Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Amihizam Abdul Shukor.

He said the individual who purportedly was sexually harassed by the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia deputy president withdrew her report on July 24, the same day she had lodged it.

“However, we have opened a police inquiry paper on the matter. The process is still ongoing,” he said yesterday.

It is learnt the purpose of an inquiry paper is to get to the bottom of the complainant’s report and why the individual made the claim.

It will also enable the police to determine if any criminal offence was committed.

Earlier yesterday, in his report, Ahmad Faizal, who is also popularly known as Peja, said the allegation against him was defamatory.

He said a police report was made to counter the allegation made by the individual on July 24.

Ahmad Faizal said that at the time of the alleged incident, he was attending a Bersatu meeting in Seremban.

“The allegation is false and libellous. It is defamatory and has elements of defamation. On the said time and date, I was at the Royale Chulan Hotel in Seremban as chairman of the Negri Sembilan Perikatan Nasional, where I met various parties.

“At 2.30pm (on July 24), I departed for Kuala Lumpur to attend a meeting at the Perikatan headquarters in Publika, Kuala Lumpur. There were many witnesses to corroborate where I was at the alleged time and date,” said Ahmad Faizal.

He added that he has complete faith in the police conducting thorough investigations to get to the crux of the matter.

“I have a right to take legal action against the party who made such allegations against me. I hope we talk about the politics and policies that benefit the state during this election campaigning period.

“Such personal attacks do no good and only waste the time and efforts of the police,” said Ahmad Faizal.

In the earlier police report, which was withdrawn, a woman claimed she was walking to an office in Plaza Damas when a man she claimed to be Ahmad Faizal uttered derogatory remarks against her.

“Furious and embarrassed, I continued walking to Blok M (Plaza Damas). I then narrated the story to my husband.

“My husband wanted to see Ahmad Faizal, and upon his advice, I was urged to go to the police station to file a police report for my safety,” the complainant said in the report that went viral on social media.
