State polls: Selangor to take legal action against 'smear-mongers'

THE caretaker Selangor government will take legal action against those who attempt to tarnish its image as well as that of its subsidiaries, says Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

"We must work hard to ensure the wild allegations by the Opposition are (exposed as) recycled slander, which have already been explained in state assembly meetings.

"They are desperate to convince voters in Selangor," the caretaker Mentri Besar told reporters after launching the Selangor General Insurance Scheme (Insan) Takaful at Bangi Convention Centre here on Friday (Aug 4).

"They attempted to discredit our achievements in terms of the economy before the start of the campaign. They were unsuccessful," he added.

Amirudin said Selangor was focused on presenting its success story for the past 15 years, especially the last five years, to the people with the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) and the latest Tawaran Kita Selangor: 5 Tekad untuk 5 Tahun (Our offer to Selangor: Five determinations for five years).

In a statement later on Friday, Amirudin said he would be taking legal action against Kedah Mentri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor over his speech made during a ceramah in Jitra, Kedah.

Asked about Pakatan Harapan's alliance with Umno and Barisan Nasional, Amirudin said the relationship was improving.

"We have been working well together following the nominations," he said, adding that the focus now is on securing a two-thirds majority for unity government parties in the Aug 12 state elections.
