Don't mock my efforts to end poverty, says Anwar

KEPALA BATAS: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim wants to further expedite efforts to revitalise economic activities and end hardcore poverty, especially among the bumiputra community.

He said that he had ordered the coordination unit under the Prime Minister's Department to help in these efforts.

"I don't mind being mocked as much as possible, but I will not tolerate not putting a stop to poverty by this year," he said in his speech at the Penang Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Gathering 2023 here on Saturday (Aug 5).

Also present was caretaker Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

Anwar expressed sadness that some mothers could not even buy milk for their children and school uniforms.

He said he will not rest and do all that he can to lift those groups out of poverty.

Meanwhile, Anwar said that he will be in touch via phone with Turkiye's president Tayyip Erdogan later this afternoon to discuss boosting investments between the two countries.

This is following a series of huge international investments being drawn into the country including recently with billionaire Elon Musk to discuss automaker Tesla's investment in the country.
