Man arrested over parking spot skirmish

KUALA LUMPUR: A man has been arrested for “roughing up” two people in a parking dispute at Taman Danau Desa.

The incident was sparked when the suspect’s father allegedly hit another car when he opened his vehicle door, and the car owner uttered the word “stupid”, which caused the suspect to see red.

He then grabbed a metal bar and confronted the car owner.

A video of the incident has been circulating on the social media platform X, previously known as Twitter.

Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Amihizam Abdul Shukor said police were alerted to the incident after the 90-second video went viral on Thursday.

“A 48-year-old man also lodged a police report on the incident, which allegedly occurred at around 9.55am on July 31.

“We opened an investigation for voluntarily causing hurt using a weapon,” he said in a statement yesterday.

ACP Amihizam said after an initial investigation, police arrested a 45-year-old man on the same day.

“We have remanded the suspect for three days to assist with investigations.

“We urge the public to refrain from speculating on the video that has been circulated,” he said.

The viral video also sees a man in shorts and a T-shirt (the suspect) holding a metal bar and approaching another man who is seen picking up a traffic cone and shoving it in his direction.

A voice can be heard in the background saying “don’t” as the two men confront each other.

The suspect approaches the other individual, but he backs away before swinging the metal bar and hitting the man until he loses his balance and falls.

The two men can be heard exchanging profanities before the suspect tells a woman holding the camera to “watch her words” before hitting her with the bar, causing her to drop the device she was using to record the incident.
