Melaka developing foster school programme to empower TVET

ALOR GAJAH: The state government is developing a foster school programme in collaboration with public and private institutions of higher education to empower Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Melaka.

State Science, Innovation, Technology and Digital Communications Committee chairman Fairul Nizam Roslan said the initiative would involve 77 secondary schools and is part of efforts to instill an interest in the field among students.

"The foster school programme with institutions of higher education will also cover knowledge and technology sharing as well as encourage the students to take up TVET,” he told reporters after attending the durian eating and Ramah Mesra programme with Melaka media practitioners in Alor Gajah here on Friday (Aug 4).

Fairul Nizam said that the state government is currently coordinating the programme through the Melaka State Education Department by matching the institutions of higher education and secondary schools.

He said the programme is set to be launched in October, in conjunction with the 2023 Smart Melaka International Conference (SMIC)

"So far, the Technical University of Malaysia Melaka (UTeM), the University of Technology MARA (UiTM), Multimedia University Melaka (MMU) and University College of Agroscience Malaysia (UCAM) have stated that they are prepared to commit to this programme,” he said.

He said the programme would also increase the participation of school students in the 2023 Malaysia Techlympics South Zone level programme to be held in Melaka this year. - Bernama
