State polls: Vote for Perikatan to urge your president to step down, Hamzah tells Umno members

KUALA PILAH: Vote for Perikatan Nasional as a sign for your president to stand down, says Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin (pic) to Umno members.

The Perikatan secretary-general said there was already a big percentage of Umno supporters who saw Perikatan as an alternative.

"To Umno members who don’t like party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, vote for Perikatan to take over.

"This will send a sign to the president whose (party) lost at the previous general election and now lost the state polls, should step down.

"If someone else takes over, Umno’s future will be brighter and there may be changes," he told reporters after attending an event here on Saturday (Aug 5).

"We at Perikatan want to see our country’s leaders, regardless of their party, are full of integrity to bring the country forward," he added.

Hamzah said Umno members should also wake up to the reality of the situation.

"I want them to realise and join us. It’s fine if you don’t want to leave the party, but be with us and vote for Perikatan," he said.

Separately, he said the coalition would be holding a meeting to identify its candidates for the coming by-elections for the Pulai parliamentary seat and Simpang Jeram state seat.

"Our big family (PAS, Bersatu and Gerakan) will decide on the candidate," he said.

The Pulai parliamentary and Simpang Jeram state seat fell vacant after its incumbent Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub passed away.

The Election Commission has since set Sept 9 as polling day for the seats.
