Three inmates escape from Serendah Rehab Centre

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are tracking down three inmates who escaped from the Serendah Rehabilitation Centre in Hulu Selangor on Friday (Aug 4).

Two of them were from Asrama Al-Azim and another from Asrama Al-Hamzah, aged between 44 and 55.

Hulu Selangor district police chief Supt Ahmad Faizal Tahrim said the trio was absent during the morning assembly and left the centre without the permission of the facility’s head.

It is suspected that the inmates climbed over a high barbed wire fence after the Subuh prayer and escaped.

"The police have launched a manhunt for them. We have blacklisted the inmates till their arrest," he said in a statement on Saturday.

Ahmad Faizal said investigations revealed that the escaped inmates were undergoing rehabilitation at the centre.

"Police have opened an investigation paper under Section 224 of the Penal Code.

"Those with information are urged to contact the Hulu Selangor district police headquarters at 03-6064 1132 or investigating officer Inspector Siti Zulaikha Mohamed at 03-6064 1222, or any nearest police station," he said. - Bernama
