4x4 convoy participant drowns


GUA MUSANG: A 54-year-old trader taking part in a four-wheel drive convoy drowned after he was swept away by strong currents while taking a bath in Sungai Lebir here.

OCPD Supt Sik Choon Foo said the body of Mohd Hanafiah Abd Hamid, 54, was found by a search and rescue team at 5.30pm on Friday.

Supt Sik said the victim, a trader from Putrajaya, was a participant in a three-day 4X4 Fans Jamboree at the site.

“The victim was swept into deep water after he slipped and fell while bathing.

“His friends tried to help, but to no avail,” he said in a statement yesterday, Bernama reported.The victim’s body was taken to the forensic unit of Hospital Gua Musang for a post-mortem.

Supt Sik said police had classified the case as sudden death.
