Cops arrest suspected burglar in JB


JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested a 27-year-old man over investigations into house break-ins and car thefts in Taman Desa Cemerlang, here.

Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the suspect was arrested at 3.30am on Saturday (Aug 5) by a team of police from the Desa Cemerlang police station.

"Police also confiscated a vehicle, six laptops, two tablets, three identification cards, two mobile phones, three bags and RM113 in cash.

"We have also confiscated four Indonesian passports," he said in a statement here on Sunday (Aug 6).

A background check revealed that the suspect had a record of eight previous crimes.

He also tested positive for methamphetamine.

"With this arrest, we have managed to solve four house break-in cases in Desa Cemerlang," he said, adding that the suspect is currently under remand until Aug 9.

The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for breaking into a house to commit burglary and Section 379A of the Penal Code for vehicle theft.
