State polls: Jerlun Bersatu chief sacked for standing as an independent candidate

PETALING JAYA: Jerlun Bersatu chief Abdul Ramli has been sacked from the party for contesting as an Independent candidate for the Kota Siputeh seat in the 15th state election.

Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin said by doing so, Abdul’s membership was immediately disqualified for violating Clause 10.2.4 of the party constitution.

"Bersatu takes the issue of disciplinary violations seriously and will act decisively on any party that tries to sabotage the Perikatan Nasional candidate in this state election," he said in a statement on Sunday (Aug 6).

Hamzah added that the party would not hesitate to act against any members who breached party rules, as it had also previously dismissed a party member from the Hulu Selangor division and suspended the membership of another two, for three years, for the offence of sabotage during the election campaign.

He also called upon all party members and the Bersatu machinery to give their full focus in ensuring the victory of Perikatan candidates before polling day on Aug 12.

"There are five days left of the campaigning, all members and Bersatu machinery are called to give full focus on ensuring victory for all Perikatan candidates, whether they are competing under the symbol of Perikatan or PAS to translate the referendum of the people's rejection of the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional government," Hamzah added.
