State polls: Pick a candidate with vision, Temiang voters told

SEREMBAN: Perikatan Nasional's Datuk Chua Eng Pu hopes that voters will not vote for logo during the state election, but someone with vision.

The 54-year-old businessman, who graduated in civil engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, is challenging Pakatan Harapan's three-term incumbent Ng Chin Tsai for the Temiang state seat.

From the feedback the Gerakan candidate received during his walkabouts in the constituency, he said that voters had raised several issues and he pledged to resolve them within three years, if elected.

"There are issues related to flash floods, poor drainage, infrastructure, hill slope erosion, street lights, poor road designs and potholes, and others.

"With all these, Temiang, to me, is like 15 years behind other urban areas.

"I guarantee that I will change the landscape of the area within three years if given a chance to serve," he said, adding that he would also work hard to get the authorities to build low cost flats for the urban poor.

Chua said Temiang, an area located within the city of Seremban, should have been much more developed and better planned.

"But unfortunately, it looks more like a kampung to me," he said.

The Klang-born Chua, who is married with three children, is happy with the good vibes he has been getting during his campaign rounds.

Chua, a company chief executive officer who has ventured into e-commerce and several other businesses now, hoped the constituents would pick a representative, who could help them resolve their problems quickly.

Asked if he is optimistic about unseating the incumbent in Pakatan's stronghold, Chua said anything is possible in politics.

Temiang is seeing a three-cornered fight in the Aug 12 polls, with Muda's Ahmad Qusyairi Abdull Rahim joining in the fray.

Chinese voters make up the majority of 13,085 in the constituency with 44.5%, followed by the Malays (37.6%), Indians (15%) and others (2.8%).
