TWO women in China’s Guangdong province were criticised for polluting a river by dumping several bags of fish tofu into it, China Press reported.

Video footage showed the two squatting next to the Dong River while cutting open bags of fish tofu before unloading them into the water. Fish tofu resembles the form and texture of tofu but is made from fish paste.

Many Internet users slammed the women for polluting the river, with some questioning whether the fish would eat the tofu.

“At the very least they removed the packaging,” one netizen said sarcastically.

The Dongguan Water Bureau later responded to concerns about the women’s action, saying that it was a tradition in Guangdong to release animals into the river as well as to feed them. The spokesperson said that it was considered a traditional belief and that the women had not broken any law.

However, he added that the bureau would not encourage such actions as the Dong River is a source water protection area.

> Not only were their wages not paid in full, employees at a tech startup in Taiwan were asked to loan the company 70% of their salary to help it stay afloat, Sin Chew Daily reported.

An employee at the firm posted an agreement they were told to sign on social media and asked Internet users for their opinion.

According to the agreement, the company wants the employees to waive their rights as per Taiwan’s Labour Standards Act and accept only 30% of their full pay for the time being, with promises to pay a 20% annual interest on the wages owed.

Many Internet users warned the employees to not sign the agreement, saying that they would not get anything if the company collapsed.
