Don't run away, step up and face the music, Anwar advises Muhyiddin's son-in-law

NIBONG TEBAL: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has told his detractors not to run from the authorities and face alleged corruption probes to prove their innocence.

Referring to the statement made by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Anwar said that the anti-graft agency is trying to locate Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's son-in-law.

"Now he is on the run, this cannot be. If there is any evidence, there should be an investigation and then a charge in court. If he feels that he is not guilty, he should defend himself.

"Running away is not a good example. This is because (the case) that he is linked with involves a huge amount," he told reporters after meeting with the people at Gerai Perda Tasek, near Simpang Ampat here Tuesday (Aug 8).

On Monday (Aug 7), the MACC issued a statement that it is seeking Muhyiddin's son-in-law Adlan Berhan and lawyer Mansoor Saat to come forward to assist the probe into a ministry project involving the registration, recruitment and storage of foreign workers' biometric data.

“Based on the MACC’s checks with the Immigration Department, the two individuals left the country on May 17 and 21, respectively, and there are no records of their return,” it said.

Anwar, who is also the Pakatan Harapan chairman, said that Perikatan can no longer claim that they are "clean" as some of them are linked to corruption probes.

The MACC also said that various efforts had been made to contact the duo, as well as their respective lawyers, but they had failed to present themselves at the Commission's office.
