KUALA LUMPUR: City Hall here (DBKL) has distributed 32,500 Jalur Gemilang in various sizes in conjunction with this year’s National Day.
Among others, the flags were given to government agencies, higher education institutions, non-governmental organisations, public housing areas, traders and hawkers associations as well as taxi drivers.
Mayor Datuk Kamarulzaman Mat Salleh said 3,000 Jalur Gemilang bunting were also put up along the major roads in the city, such as Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Parlimen, Jalan Kuching, Jalan Tun Razak and Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman.
“City Hall has taken the initiative to display National Day and Malaysia Day messages on its LED screens at Menara DBKL, Dataran Merdeka, and on those belonging to the private sector as well as the variable message signboards (VMS) around Kuala Lumpur.
“City Hall has also distributed a circular to 180 building owners in the city centre to fly the Jalur Gemilang and illuminate their premises with decorative lights,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama during the handing over of Jalur Gemilang at Menara DBKL here.
According to Kamarulzaman, a variety of programmes will be held in conjunction with the National Month, such as the Special Merdeka Edition of the KL Car Free Morning, a City Hall housing football carnival, a colouring contest scheduled on Aug 13 at Stadium Titiwangsa, and the Ambang Merdeka Concert at Dataran Merdeka on Aug 30.
“I hope that these programmes can revitalise the feeling of independence and sense of identity among the city folk.
“I also hope that they will take the opportunity to participate to express their love for the country,” he said.
