No hate speech reported in Selangor

SHAH ALAM: There have been no police reports on hate speech that touched on race, religion and royalty (3R) in Selangor, but the police are remaining vigilant.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said a total of 518 police reports have been lodged in Selangor in connection with the state elections so far, and 20 investigation papers (IPs) have been opened.

“So far, there have been no reports on hate speech involving 3R in Selangor (during the elections). We hope this will continue until the end of the state elections,” he told a press conference at the Selangor police headquarters yesterday.

Ayob Khan reminded all candidates and their supporters to refrain from touching on 3R issues.

“We will take stern action against those who touch on matters concerning 3R,” he added.

Earlier, Ayob Khan monitored the early voting process involving those in the Selangor police contingent. He was accompanied by Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan and his deputy, Deputy Comm Datuk S. Sasikala Devi.

Meanwhile, Comm Hussein said some 15,000 police personnel and officers will be deployed in Selangor on polling day to maintain security and public order.

“To date, the majority of the police reports lodged are for damaging flags and posters of political parties, while offences under 3R have not been recorded in the state,” he said.

In Kelantan, state police chief Comm Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said as of yesterday, a total of eight investigation papers (IP) have been opened in relation to election-related offences.
