Road signs to be installed at accident-prone area along Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari, says Nanta

SHAH ALAM: Road signs will be installed to warn road users as they approach Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari from Puncak Alam to head towards Shah Alam, near a petrol station here, following serious and fatal accidents at the area.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said after checking on the location, the stretch of road was found to be undulating with heavy traffic flow.

Otherwise, it was in good condition and had been installed with street lights.

Nanta said he was aware that most of the accidents were caused by road users who had gone against the traffic rules by turning right to get to the petrol station, despite the double lines on the road

He said the area had recorded five accidents since 2020, including a fatal case involving a Universiti Teknologi Mara student from Puncak Alam campus on Wednesday (Aug 9) evening.

"We have taken note of the frequent accidents here including those made viral on social media.

"Even though this is a state road, it is JKR’s responsibility to work with the state government to ensure road safety," he told reporters here on Thursday (Aug 10).

He said that the state JKR has informed that there are plans to widen the road in the area and that a road divider would be built to prevent vehicles from turning right.

"This is a long-term plan, but as an immediate step the state JKR has been instructed to install no right turn signs so that road users are forewarned," he said. - Bernama
