State polls: Perak deploys 1,500 cops to help out, mostly in Kelantan

IPOH: More than 1,500 officers and personnel from the Perak police contingent will be deployed to five states to assist with the elections.

Perak police chief Datuk Seri Comm Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said most of them would be sent to Kelantan.

"A total of 1,505 police officers and personnel will be assisting in Kelantan while 84 traffic police officers would be sent to Kedah, Penang, Selangor and Terengganu.

"This figure includes 333 from the Ipoh district station, 132 from Taiping and 123 from Manjung," he told reporters after the sending-off ceremony at Stadium Indera Mulia here on Thursday (Aug 10).

"From the state police headquarters, we will deploy 50 personnel to Kelantan," he said, adding that he hoped those being sent out would be on their best behaviour to set an excellent example to other states.

"Our personnel will be there for at least five days starting from today," he added.

The state polls in Kelantan, Terengganu, Selangor, Penang, Kedah and Negri Sembilan will be held on Saturday (Aug 12).

Comm Mohd Yusri said those being sent to help in the state elections are expected to maintain their integrity at all times while performing their duty.

"I hope they will take care of themselves, especially during this unpredictable weather, and look after their health.

""I have been told that their accommodations and meals have been prepared, so I expect our men and women to be at their best," he said.

"While for some of them, heading to Kelantan means that they get to visit their family, I hope they will make work the first priority.

"They get to see their loved ones of course, but after doing their duty," he added.
