PETALING JAYA: PAS has proposed that the caretaker mentris besar of Kedah and Terengganu be retained while hinting the removal of caretaker Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob.
In a live video announcement on Aug 11, a day before six states go to the polls tomorrow (Aug 12), PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said that PAS will not be announcing any candidates for the posts as that is the Sultans' prerogative to appoint.
He further said that the PAS leadership had proposed to the Rulers of Kedah and Terengganu to retain the current mentris besar in the respective states.
The PAS secretary-general, however, did not mention if Kelantan mentri besar was to be retained in any way.
Kedah’s caretaker MB is Datuk Seri Mohamad Sanusi Md Nor while Terengganu is helmed by Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokthar.
Takiyuddin said the party’s proposals for mentris besar should they win the state government are still subject to the consent of the respective state Rulers.
"In a meeting of Central PAS leadership in Marang, Terengganu, chaired by PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, PAS proposes to retain the Mentri Besars of Kedah and Terengganu, depending on the mandate of the people in the polls and the appointment by the Sultans of both Kedah and Terengganu.
"We propose that the posts of Kelantan Mentri Besar and his deputy comprise of one with a religious background and the other from a technocrat background, depending on the mandate of the people at the polls and the prerogative of His Highness Sultan of Kelantan (Sultan Muhammad V)," said Takiyuddin.
The six states of Kedah, Terengganu, Kelantan, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Penang go to the polls on Aug 12.
The Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu state governments were under the rule of Perikatan Nasional with mentris besar from PAS.
