SHAH ALAM: The police have wrapped up their investigation into the controversy caused by the British band The 1975 at the recent Good Vibes Festival at the Sepang International Circuit.
Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the investigation papers would be handed over to the deputy public prosecutor’s office soon for the next course of action.
“We have taken statements from 28 people comprising 10 from Puspal (the Central Agency for Application for Filming and Performance by Foreign Artistes), 17 from complainants, and the organiser.
“We could not take any statements from the band members as they had left the country.
“As I have said earlier, we will hold the organiser responsible for the incident,” he said at the state police headquarters yesterday.
While performing at the music festival on July 21, band singer Matty Healy ranted on stage about the country’s LGBTQ laws before locking lips with bassist Ross MacDonald.
The incident prompted the organiser to pull the plug on the band’s performance and the remaining two days of the music festival were cancelled by the Communications and Digital Ministry.
Earlier, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay addressed claims of police inaction in detaining the band, saying that the first report was lodged at 2pm on July 22, which was hours after the band had flown out of the country.
