Boy, 8, dies hours after being pulled out from swamp


BUTTERWORTH: An eight-year-old boy who was rescued after falling into a swamp here died hours after being pulled out.

The boy was found unconscious before being rushed to the Seberang Jaya Hospital at around 7pm on Friday (Aug 11).

The Fire and Rescue Department said the hospital confirmed the boy’s death at around 9.55pm.

Earlier, the department said in a statement that the boy, a Rohingya, was rescued by the public when he appeared to be drowning in the swamp at Jalan Baru, Seberang Jaya.

"At that time, he was found unconscious and taken to the Seberang Jaya Hospital by the public before we arrived at the scene at around 7pm.”
