King, Queen attend sovereign parade for commissioning of Tengku Ahmad Ismail at RMAS, London


KUALA LUMPUR: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah attended the commissioning of their son, Tengku Ahmad Ismail Mu'adzam Shah, at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) in London.

The Sovereign’s Parade ceremony at RMAS took place on Friday (Aug 11).

The ceremony was also attended by the Malaysian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Datuk Zakri Jaafar and his wife, Datin Nor Aini Abdul Rahman, as well as the Comptroller of the Royal Household of Istana Negara Major-General Datuk Zahari Mohd Ariffin and Malaysian Defence Adviser in the UK, Brigadier General Datuk Safwan Ismail.

Sultan Abdullah was greeted on arrival at the ceremony by the UK Defence Chief of Staff General Sir Patrick Sanders, and then given the royal salute, accompanied by the national anthem "Negaraku”.

Meanwhile, Sultan Abdullah also underwent military training at RMAS from 1978 to 1979 and was commissioned by the late Queen Elizabeth II in 1980, while the Regent of Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah, who also underwent military training at the academy, was commissioned in December 2019. - Bernama
