KUALA SELANGOR: The Bukit Melawati seat in Selangor has swung in favour of Perikatan Nasional.
Bersatu's Azley Yahya clinched a narrow victory after a neck-and-neck race at the ballots against Pakatan Harapan candidate Thiban Subbramaniam to win with an 877-vote majority.
Azley, 41, who arrived at the Kuala Selangor Indoor Stadium at the eleventh hour before the official announcement, said he did not feel confident with the numbers based on the voter turnout.
"Our projection was a win based on higher turnout," he said, adding that he felt relieved with the results after the close fight with Thiban.
He said he would return to meet and thank the voters for their support.
"I am glad, and at the same time will bear responsibility for the office with the promises I have made," he said.
Azley won the Bukit Melawati seat with 14,672 votes while Thiban attracted 13,795 votes.
A total of 28,467 constituents cast their votes. There were 289 spoiled votes and 24 unreturned votes.
