State polls: Muda’s Batu Tiga candidate goes down memory lane as she votes at alma mater

A TRIP to her old school brought back a flood of fond memories for Cheda Razak, Muda’s candidate for the Batu Tiga (N41) state seat.

Cheda, whose full name is Saiyidah Izzati Nur Razak Maideen, was accompanied by her friend Nadirah Musa to cast their votes at their alma mater SK Seksyen 18 in Shah Alam, Selangor.

The 35-year-olds have been friends since Year One until Form Five, and still meet often to catch up.

“Many of my school friends are still registered voters in Batu Tiga, even though they have moved out,” said Cheda.

“So our routine would be to cast our votes at one of the four voting centres in Section 18, Shah Alam, in the morning then meet for an early lunch. But this routine will change this time since I plan to make my rounds and visit about 10 voting centres today (Aug 12).”

The lawyer said campaigning for the Selangor election has been a good experience and she enjoyed meeting people to understand issues on the ground.

“I’ve lived in Batu Tiga my whole life but it’s been eye-opening to understand local issues and relating to people in where they stay, both in urban and village settings.

“Another thing I discovered is the many restaurants and food stalls serving good food here, which I plan to revisit after elections are over!” she said.

While she was surprised when Cheda announced her candidacy to run in the state election, Nadirah said it suited her personality as Cheda has been a very determined and goal-oriented person.

Cheda’s family also voted in other schools within Batu Tiga. They are her father Razak Maideen, 65, her sister Syazana Nur Razak Maideen, 37, and her brother Muhammad Syahir Razak Maideen, 28.

Batu Tiga constituency in Selangor will see a three-cornered fight between Cheda, Pakatan Harapan’s Danial Al-Rashid and Perikatan Nasional’s Datuk Seri Rina Harun.

There are 75,486 registered voters in Batu Tiga (N41) this Selangor state election.

Batu Tiga was previously held by Pakatan’s PKR, under three-term assemblyman Rodziah Ismail. She won it in the 2018 General Election with a 15,616 majority.
