State polls: No idea who PAS has in mind for Kelantan MB and deputy, says Amar

KOTA BARU: Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah (pic) says he is in the dark about his successor as deputy Kelantan mentri besar, or who the next mentri besar will be as well.

According to him, outgoing mentri besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob had also indicated that he would prefer to let go of running the state.

Mohd Amar said Ahmad had previously told PAS leadership that he would rather work for the party without any position.

However, he said party president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang felt that Ahmad, the incumbent Pasir Pekan assemblyman, could better serve Kelantan as its MB.

“Ahmad Yaakob was not dropped. That is not the issue. Since the 14th General Election, Ahmad had asked to not be fielded as a candidate but the president felt he could still lead the state.

“However, this time around, he (Ahmad) insisted (not to be MB any longer) and the party president took note of the request while considering Ahmad’s age and health factors,” Amar told reporters when met at SK Panji here on Saturday (Aug 12) after voting.

Mohd Amar is contesting the Panchor state seat against Syed Mohd Alidustur Syed Mohd Zain from Pakatan Harapan.

Ahmad is defending Pasir Pekan against Pakatan's Zamakhsari Ibrahim.

Since the campaigning period began on July 29, talk was rife in Kelantan that both the mentri besar and his deputy would be replaced.

On Friday (Aug 11), PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the party had decided to replace Ahmad and Mohd Amar in the state's top two posts but did not mention any names.
