ALOR SETAR: The voting process in Kedah is going smoothly and without any untoward incident, says state police chief Comm Datuk Fisol Salleh.

He said overall, the situation during the early period of the voting process proceeded in a peaceful manner.

"So far so good. Nevertheless we, the state police, will guarantee the safety of voters today," he said in a statement on Saturday (Aug 12).

Comm Fisol said a total of 7,160 police officers and personnel have been deployed in the state to ensure a smooth and safe polling process.

He said additional police from Bukit Aman and the Perlis contingent were also deployed to help monitor the voting process here.

Comm Fisol advised voters to adhere to police instructions to prevent disruption during the voting period.

He said voters are also advised to come early and to plan their journey ahead.

"All voters are prohibited from organising any marches near voting centres or counting centres and are advised not to commit any provocation that can create disturbance," he said.

He said a total of 277 police reports were lodged during the campaign period from July 29 to Aug 11.

He said of the total, 30 investigation papers were opened and four individuals had been arrested.
