State polls: Perikatan's Wan Dzahanurin wins Sungai Kandis

SHAH ALAM: Sungai Kandis incumbent Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni (PH-PKR) failed to defend his seat in the state polls in Selangor.

He lost with a slim majority of 167 votes to Perikatan Nasional candidate Wan Dzahanurin Ahmad from Bersatu.

Wan Dzahanurin received 28,926 votes in a three-way fight against Mohd Zawawi (28,765) and Muda candidate Afriena Shaqira Sariff (1,341).

Returning officer (RO) Mohd Azhar Mohd Shariff announced the results at the Dewan Orang Ramai MBSA tallying centre at about 10.55pm Saturday (Aug 12).

However, prior to the official announcement, Pakatan supporters came to the hall protesting about an alleged discrepancy in the number of unreturned votes.

The supporters claimed that the number of unreturned votes did not tally with the official results.

During the incident, both Mohd Zawawi and Wan Dzahanurin were present at the hall.

Perikatan supporters cheered at the announcement, prompting police officers to ask them to calm down.

Their supporters left the hall shortly after, while Pakatan supporters remained.
