State polls: Unity pact has enough seats to form Penang govt, says Chow


GEORGE TOWN: The two-thirds majority needed to form the Penang state government has been obtained, says caretaker Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

In announcing this, he said the unity partnership has won 29 seats in the state polls.

Chow added that while the Election Commission has yet to announce the results of some seats, enough seats have been won to form the state government.

Chow said he will be sworn in as the Chief Minister on Sunday (Aug 13), adding that he hopes to lead the state government well for the next five years.

"The future is still filled with challenges and we will work hard, analyse and do better, working on all our weaknesses," he said at a press conference held at the St Giles Wembley hotel on Saturday (Aug 12) while awaiting the full election results.

He thanked all the candidates, volunteers and the media for their work and contributions.
