Stray buffalo causes five-car pile-up on NSE

IPOH: A buffalo that wandered onto the North-South Expressway (NSE) caused a five-car pile-up that left five people injured.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department operations centre officer-in-charge Mohd Hamidi Manas said the incident occurred at KM200 southbound on the NSE, near the Kamunting toll, at 3.50am on Saturday (Aug 12).

Mohd Hamidi said the incident occurred after a car carrying four people crashed into the animal which had strayed onto the expressway.

"This led to a pile-up involving the four other cars," he said in a statement.

Mohd Hamidi said the four people in the first car sustained some light injuries in the incident.

"One person in another vehicle was also injured, while those in the remaining cars were unhurt," he said, adding that the buffalo was killed.

"No one was trapped in the vehicles, and the injured were rushed to Hospital Taiping in three ambulances," he added.

Mohd Hamidi said all the vehicles involved in the incident have been handed over to the police and PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) for further action.
