Tourists from China are generally satisfied with security in state, says envoy

KOTA KINABALU: Most of the tourists from China are satisfied with the level of security in Sabah, says the Chinese Consul General in Kota Kinabalu.

Huang Shifang said that a survey and feedback from Chinese visitors to Sabah found that tourists from China are generally very satisfied with Sabah's security, especially in the east coast areas.

She added that they are confident in the level of security in the state due to the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) in place.

“Congratulations and thank you to Esscom for its ability to preserve peace and security in Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone) areas,” she said when paying a courtesy call on Esscom commander Deputy Comm Victor Sanjos on Friday (Aug 11).

Huang said such a level of security makes tourists more confident and likely to visit the state, and added that the same goes for investors.

She then said that she hopes the consulate and Esscom would be able to foster better working relations in future.

In response, DCP Sanjos said that Esscom would make the safety of all on Sabah's east coast a priority.

“We hope to not only preserve the existing relations and rapports we have with the various agencies but also with others such as the Tourism Ministry and the Immigration Department for better data-gathering of tourists and visitors to Sabah’s east coast,” he said.

He said such data included information about their movements when in this part of the state, as it could help Esscom better monitor and protect visitors.

It is also to assist Esscom during emergencies and to locate or respond to cases involving visitors to Sabah faster, said DCP Sanjos.

“Esscom and its partners will continue to remain vigilant in protecting the sovereignty of the state and nation,” he said, adding they will also make sure all attempts to disrupt the safety of the people in east coast Sabah are prevented.
