Father, son arrested following armed confrontation in Sibu


SIBU: A father and his son were arrested here for allegedly threatening five people and swinging a meat cleaver at them, says Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Zulkipli Suhaili.

He said that the 69-year-old father and his 33-year-old son were detained five hours after the incident which happened at 11.30am on Saturday (Aug 12) at the Jalan Bukit Assek commercial centre.

ACP Zulkipli also said that a video of the incident had gone viral, adding that it shows a man swinging a meat cleaver at a group of about five people.

"The incident happened because the elderly man was angry with the noise from a car audio system that was being tested at a car accessory shop about 10 meters from his home," said ACP Zulkipli.

He added that a verbal argument began between the elder suspect and customers at the shop, and said that his son then joined in.

ACP Zulkipli said during the argument, the elder man swung his meat cleaver at the men.

"No one was injured in the accident. Acting on a police report by a 30-year old man at 2pm, a police team went to the suspects' home to arrest them," he said, adding that the meat cleaver has also been seized.

The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
