SEMENYIH: Perikatan Nasional's Nushi Mahfodz has won the state seat here with 36,068 votes in the state polls, beating Wan Zulaika of Barisan Nasional with a 1,262-vote majority.
The 48-year-old Selangor PAS information chief had previously contested the Sungai Ramal parliamentary seat in 2018.
As Nushi had joined the gathering of Perikatan members in Shah Alam, he was represented by his 19-year-old son Afif Afwan and 42-year-old younger brother Ahmad Najdan at the vote counting centre in Kompleks MPKj at Setia Ecohill here.
This was where returning officer Norazman Abd Rahim read the official results, declaring Nushi the winner for the Semenyih seat.
"This is going to be a proud moment for our family, especially my father Mahfodz Mohamed who also sits in the PAS central committee," said Ahmad.
Ahmad said Nushi's victory in Semenyih would be a continuation of his father's efforts.
"After going into politics upon his retirement, my father was nominated as an election candidate four times," said Ahmad.
"My father used his experience to help Nushi in his campaign trail in Semenyih," he added.
In response to his victory, Nushi was seen thanking his supporters in a social media post.
"Let us maintain the love and brotherhood among each other through constructive dialogue. Together, we will play a positive role in making our lives better than yesterday," said Nushi.
