GEORGE TOWN: It was a superheroes kind of day as the likes of Spider-Man and The Incredible Hulk turned up to cast their votes.

Clad in his special Spidey costume, superhero enthusiast Muhamad Shahrizal Mat Sahat, 33, turned up at SK Sri Aman in Kampung Melayu, Ayer Itam, to vote for the Air Itam state seat.

Posing for press photographers as he entertained volunteers at the voting station with his antics, Muhamad Shahrizal said the costume was one of his 15 superhero suits.

“I am a huge fan and have a collection, but my favourite is my Spider-Man costume.

“Last year, during the 15th General Election in November, I turned up to vote in my Captain America suit. I enjoy wearing these costumes to vote even if they draw curious stares.

“The volunteers and police are always accommodating as long as I remove my mask to show my face for identification purposes and when I cast my ballot,” he said.Muhamad Shahrizal also had to undo his costume to dip his finger in the indelible ink before putting it back on to cast his vote.

At the Desa Intan Flats polling centre in Ayer Itam, a man created a buzz when he turned up in The Incredible Hulk get-up to cast his vote for the Paya Terubong state seat.

He was escorted by the police as he walked to his voting channel where he was requested to take his mask off for identification purposes.

Preferring to remain anonymous, the man shared that this was not his first outing to vote in a full costume.

“Last November, I turned up in a full Predator costume (the alien hunter from the movie) to vote,” he said.
