IPOH: A 63-year-old Orang Asli woman was killed after being trampled by an elephant near a durian farm in Kampung Bal, RPS Kemar at Gerik.

Gerik OCPD Supt Zulkifli Mahmood said investigations found that the victim had gone to the farm to pick some durians before she came across the animal between 4pm and 5pm on Sunday (Aug 13).

"We received a report at about 5.30pm. The victim was brought to the RPS Kemar health clinic and was pronounced dead," he said in a statement.

"On Monday (Aug 14) at about 9am, the postmortem conducted on the victim at the Gerik Hospital forensics department confirmed that the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the chest.

"The victim's body has been claimed by the family," he said, while expressing his condolences to the family.

Supt Zulkifli said the community at RPS Kemar are advised to be vigilant when conducting agriculture activities there.

"They need to inform the authorities if they have information on the presence of any wildlife in the area so that the appropriate actions can be taken," he added.
