DPM Fadillah congratulates young Sibu violinist on world championship success


SIBU: Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof congratulates Imran Azim Iskandar on his success in winning the classical category of the World Championship of Performing Arts (WCOPA) violin competition in the United States recently.

In a Facebook post, the Deputy Prime Minister said the Form 5 student of SMK Bukit Assek here had created history that made Sarawak and Malaysia proud.

"Imran Azim’s exceptional talent and dedication are a true inspiration and example to young people,” he said Tuesday (Aug 15).

The Deputy Prime Minister added that Imran Azim’s achievements are evidence of his extraordinary talent, skills, and hard work.

The Sibu native also took home a silver medal each in the contemporary and original works categories as well as a bronze medal each in the jazz and open categories at the competition in Anaheim, California, held from July 28 to Aug 6.

Imran Azim received a warm welcome from his family, friends and teachers as well as Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng, upon his arrival at the Sibu Airport Monday (Aug 14).

The student, when met by reporters, described the competition as very challenging and admitted that he was nervous to see how the other competitors performed.

"But as soon as I got on stage, I knew I could do it,” he said.

Imran Azim also emphasised the importance of acknowledging parents' guidance and advice in order to achieve success.

"Do it not only for yourself, but for your family, the community and the country,” he added. - Bernama
