IGP: Mohd Shuhaily's appointment as Bukit Aman CID director followed rigorous selection process

KUALA LUMPUR: Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain was appointed as the new Bukit Aman CID director after a rigorous selection process, says Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

The Inspector-General of Police said Comm Mohd Shuhaily was not handpicked, adding that he and three others were initially considered to helm the Bukit Aman CID.

"I had a thorough discussion with Deputy IGP (Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay) on the choice of the Bukit Aman CID director before forwarding the names to the Home Minister,” said Razarudin.

"It takes a while to appoint a new director as the procedures include going through the Police Force Commission," he added when speaking at a press conference at Bukit Aman on Tuesday (Aug 15).

The Bukit Aman CID director's post was left vacant after Ayob Khan was appointed the Deputy IGP in June.

"Comm Mohd Shuhaily was finally appointed given his vast experience, including in the Special Branch helming two state police contingents and even a stint as the police Security Liaison Officer in the United States,” said Razarudin.

"He has done exceptionally well as the state police chief in Penang and Kuala Lumpur.I am confident he will give his commitment to improving the department further with the assistance of deputy directors and other senior officers in the CID," he added.

The IGP said the new director has various challenges to face, including the ever-changing crime landscape involving advancements in technology.

"He has to keep up with the latest modus operandi used by criminals. On top of that, he has to prioritise aspects of integrity and good governance in the CID, outlined as among my top priority for the police force," he added.

The country's top cop said ultimately, Comm Mohd Shuhaily has to lead by example.

"It is the same message I always remind myself as well.

"We cannot achieve success by going at it alone. For me, I need the support of Deputy IGP, and all our directors to ensure public order and safety of the people," he said.

Comm Mohd Shuhaily officially begins his tenure as CID director on Monday following a handing-over ceremony in Bukit Aman.
