Peeping teen gets RM5,000 fine for recording woman in JB washroom

JOHOR BARU: A 19-year-old man was slapped with a RM5,000 fine by the Magistrate’s Court here for recording a woman while she answered nature’s call in a petrol station washroom.

Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the incident took place at a petrol station in Ulu Tiram here at around 8.30am last Saturday (Aug 12).

"The 32-year-old victim lodged a police report claiming that the suspect had recorded her while she went to the toilet. We arrested the suspect at the scene and seized his mobile phone.

"He was subsequently brought to the Magistrate’s Court on Aug 13 where he was fined RM5,000 in default 12 months’ jail under Section 509 of the Penal Code," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Aug 15).

Footage from a closed-circuit television camera of the incident went viral on social media showing the suspect following the woman into the washroom after parking her car.

The man could be seen running back to his motorcycle, followed by the woman who confronted him.

Supt Mohd Sohaimi urged the public to refrain from committing acts that go against the law and social norms.
