SERDANG: There are many issues that led to Umno's dismal performance in the recent six state elections, says Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

The Umno vice-president said there were several issues Umno faced that had carried into the elections.

This included, he said, Umno supporters not being used to having the party work with a coalition they once opposed.

"The public has also not felt the full effects of the government's efforts," he told reporters after officiating the National Food Security Conference 2023 at Universiti Putra Malaysia on Tuesday (Aug 15).

On calls that party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi should step down, Mohamed Khaled said it was easy for people to ask Ahmad Zahid to step down and it would be the shortcut solution to Umno losing in the state elections.

"However, it would be better to do a proper post-mortem to determine the causes," he said.

He added that everyone should calm down before the post-mortem is carried out as emotions were running high right now.

There have been calls for Ahmad Zahid to resign as party president since Umno’s disastrous showing in Saturday’s six state polls when it won only 19 of the 108 seats it contested.

It lost all the seats it contested in Terengganu and Kedah, won only two in Penang and Selangor, and one in Kelantan, although it fared better in Negri Sembilan with 14 seats.
