KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman has received a verbal request for assistance in the application for an Interpol Red Notice for Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s son-in-law and a lawyer, says the Inspector-General of Police.
Tan Sri Razarudin Husain confirmed receiving the request verbally, repeating his willingness to cooperate with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
“We will work together with the MACC based on the information given. So far, we have received the request for assistance (on the Red Notice) verbally,” he told reporters in Bukit Aman yesterday. The country’s top cop was commenting on MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki’s statement that the graft busters were planning, with the help of the police, to apply for an Interpol Red Notice for Muhyiddin’s son-in-law and a lawyer.
Last week, the MACC issued a statement that it was seeking Datuk Seri Muhammad Adlan Berhan and lawyer Mansoor Saat to assist in its probe into a ministry project involving the registration, recruitment and storage of foreign workers’ biometric data.
It said based on checks with the Immigration Department, the two men left the country on May 17 and 21, respectively, and there were no records of their return, adding that various efforts had been made to contact the duo and their lawyers.
However, they had failed to present themselves at the MACC office.
On another matter, the IGP said Bukit Aman would further probe the over 90 reports of misuse of MyKad during polling day for the six state elections, adding that an initial investigation found that most of these cases involved fraudulent MyKad.
He said the reports were lodged when voters found that their MyKad had been used by someone else to vote.
“We are investigating the matter further.
“Our initial findings indicate that most of the cases involved fake MyKad. However, the investigation is still at an early stage,” he said.
It was earlier reported that 94 cases of misuse of MyKad were recorded during polling day on Saturday.
Using other people’s MyKad when casting votes is an offence under Section 7 of the Election Offences Act.
Selangor recorded the highest number with 48 cases, followed by Penang (20), Terengganu (nine), Kedah (nine), Negri Sembilan (six) and Kelantan (two).Overall, the police received a total of 181 reports on polling day, with the bulk of them involving the misuse of MyKad.
