MELAKA: A Melaka assemblyman is advocating for the 60-year-old Bukit Rambai health clinic here to be upgraded for better healthcare and dental services to the locals.
Klebang assemblyman Datuk Lim Ban Hong said slews of request have been received for facelift and extension of the clinic.
"The waiting queue at the clinic was another factor taken into account for the need for better infrastructure and wider space for the patients.
"Currently, there are 6,713 patients seeking treatments at the clinic in a month that makes up to 324 patients a day.
"The clinic first started operation in 1963," he said after visiting the proposed site for the extension of the clinic at Bukit Rambai here on Thursday (Aug 17).
Melaka Health Department’s director Datuk Dr Rusdi Abd Rahman was also present.
Lim said the extension of the clinic is proposed at a 1.82ha site and the project cost is estimated between RM35mil to RM38mil.
He said the work on the site was expected to begin in 2026 after the approval from the Ministry of Health.
"The clinic can render treatment to 800 patients a day once the upgrading work is completed," he added.
Meanwhile, Dr Rusdi said applications have been submitted for the constructions of six health clinics in the state.
He said among the new clinics were in areas like Sungai Rambai, Simpang Ampat, Padang Sebang, Bukit Rambai, Cheng and Bukit Katil.
Dr Rusdi said the proposal for the new medical facilities here were type three health clinics that had an ability to provide health services for 300 to 500 people a day.
