Taiping cops nab man who robbed and molested 75-year-old woman

IPOH: The police have arrested a 32-year-old man who is believed to have robbed and molested a 75-year-old woman in Pokok Assam in Taiping.

Taiping OCPD Asst Comm Razlam Ab Hamid said the suspect, who was unemployed, was arrested on Tuesday (Aug 15) at about 3.30pm, about seven hours later after the incident.

ACP Razlam said during the incident, the suspect was believed to have gone into the porch of the victim's house and dragged her inside before outraging her modesty.

"The suspect, who had covered his face with a piece of cloth, then fled in a car owned by the victim's family member.

"He is believed to have taken some valuables and money worth about RM5,000," he said in a statement.

"The car was found later, about 1.3km away from the victim's house," he added.

ACP Razlam said the suspect would be remanded from Aug 16 to 22 to facilitate investigation.

"We will investigate the matter under Section 392/397/354 of the Penal Code," he said, adding that the suspect also tested positive for heroin.

"Those with information regarding any illegal activities are urged to come forward to the police to help combat crime in the district," he added.
