Elmina plane crash: Cops want to take statements from owners of dashcam footage


SHAH ALAM: Motorists who recorded the plane crash with their vehicle dashcams at the Elmina Township here have been urged to come forward.

"These recordings will help in the probe into the incident.

"We want to take statements from the owners of the dashcam footage that has been circulated on social media," Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain (pic) told reporters at the scene on Friday (Aug 18).

He said with the search almost completed, police hoped to reopen Persiaran Elmina, where the incident occurred to alleviate traffic.

"We will try our best to collect the aircraft debris and any human remains left behind as soon as possible," he said.

Razarudin also said investigations revealed that the ehailing driver who died in the incident did not pick up any passengers.

"Checks with the company he was working for revealed he had rejected a ride at 2pm on Thursday (Aug 17)," he said.

It was reported that 10 people, including eight onboard a light aircraft, were killed after it crashed near the Elmina Township in Selangor.

The ehailing driver and a motorcyclist were killed on the ground during the impact.

The incident occurred at about 2.40pm yesterday.

The aircraft, which took off from Langkawi, was cleared to land at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang when it lost communication with the control tower. It then crashed into Persiaran Elmina.

Among the dead was first-term Pelangai state assemblyman and Pahang exco member Datuk Seri Johari Harun.

The others were pilots Shahrul Kamal Roslan and Heikal Aras Abdul Azim, and passengers Kharil Azwan Jamaludin, Shaharul Amir Omar, Mohamad Naim Fawwaz Mohamed Muaidi, Muhammad Taufiq Mohd Zaki and Idris Abdol Talib @ Ramali.
