Pulai, Simpang Jeram by-elections: Johor DAP all set to help Amanah retain seats

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Johor DAP is all set to assist Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) in defending the Pulai and Simpang Jeram seats in the upcoming by-elections, says Liew Chin Tong.

The Johor DAP chief said that Johor Pakatan Harapan had held a meeting on Monday (Aug 14) to discuss the by-elections.

"During the meeting, it was also decided that Johor Amanah chairman Aminolhuda Hassan will lead the campaign for the by-elections.

"Johor DAP and PKR have given our assurances to go all out in ensuring the two seats are retained by Amanah.

"I was also made to understand that there has also been communication with Barisan Nasional with regards to the by-elections," he told reporters when met during the Persatuan Kebajikan Pelita Johor Baru charity dinner in a resort here.

Liew said this when asked to comment on the party's preparation for the upcoming Pulai parliamentary seat and Simpang Jeram state seat by-elections.

Asked if DAP members from other states will be heading down to Johor to also assist in the elections, he said that the matter will be discussed later.

Earlier, Aminolhuda said that Pakatan Harapan will announced its candidates for both the Pulai and Simpang Jeram seats on Wednesday (August 23).

He said that the announcement will be made by Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu and Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi at the late Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub’s Simpang Jeram service centre.

“We have gotten the approval from our party leadership. The two male candidates are Johor born and highly educated,” he said.

Nomination day for the Simpang Jeram state seat and Pulai parliamentary by-elections has been set for Aug 26.

Polling will be on Sept 9 while early voting on Sept 5.

Salahuddin, who was the elected representative for both seats, died on July 23 due to a brain haemorrhage. He was 61.

Salahuddin was Amanah deputy president and had served as the domestic trade and cost of living minister.
