Pulai, Simpang Jeram polls: Pakatan to announce candidates on Aug 23, says Johor Amanah chief

JOHOR BARU: Pakatan Harapan will announce its candidates for both the Pulai parliamentary and Simpang Jeram state by-elections on Wednesday (August 23), says Aminolhuda Hassan.

The Johor Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) chairman said that the announcement would be made by party president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu and Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi on that day.

“The announcement will be held at the late Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub’s Simpang Jeram service centre,” he added.

Aminolhuda said this after attending a closed-door meeting with Johor Umno chairman Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin at state Umno headquarters here on Friday (Aug 18).

When asked about the candidates, the Sri Gading MP added that the two candidates for the Pulai and Simpang Jeram by-elections had already been endorsed by Pakatan's central leadership.

“We have already received approval from our party leadership. There will be two candidates, which we would be announcing for the Pulai and Simpang Jeram by-elections.

“The two candidates are Johor-born, highly educated and male,” he said adding that before the announcement, they would be holding a tahlil ceremony for Salahuddin.

Nomination Day for the Simpang Jeram state seat and Pulai parliamentary by-elections has been set for Aug 26.

Polling will be on Sept 9 while early voting is on Sept 5.

Salahuddin, who was the elected representative for both seats, died on July 23 due to a brain haemorrhage. He was 61.

Salahuddin was Amanah deputy president and had served as the domestic trade and cost of living minister.
