RM30mil worth of drugs seized from makeshift drug lab in Ipoh

IPOH: About RM30mil worth of Eramin 5 pills were seized by the police during a raid at a bungalow-turned-drug laboratory in Chemor near here.

Bukit Aman Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Kamarudin Md Din said two men, both aged 44, were also arrested during the operation on Tuesday (Aug 15).

Comm Mohd Kamarudin said police seized about 413kg of the pills and about 25kg of the drugs in powdered form.

"The two men are believed to be involved in processing and distributing the drugs.

"With the arrests and seized drugs, we believed we have busted the drug laboratory and taken down a syndicate," he said during a press conference at the Perak police contingent headquarters here on Friday (Aug 18).

"The two men tested positive for methamphetamine," he said, adding that both also have prior records for various crimes.

Comm Mohd Kamarudin said the drugs seized were believed to be distributed locally and outside of the state.

"The drugs could be used by 2.2 million users," he said, adding that the syndicate is believed to have been active since March this year.

Comm Mohd Kamarudin said the police also seized equipment believed to be used to process and pack the drugs.

"We also confiscated two fake rifles, a car, a motorcycle, two rings and money worth about RM1,624.

"Investigations will be conducted under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act and Section 36 of the Arms Act," he said.

"The police have obtained a court order to remand the suspects for six days, starting on Aug 16, to facilitate investigations," he added.
