JOHOR BARU: The Public Works Department will issue an immediate cleaning notice to Kumpulan Prasarana Rakyat Johor Sdn Bhd (KPRJ) for the sewage treatment plant (STP) at the Eastern Dispersal Link (EDL) apartment blocks here.

Johor Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor said that this follows reports of overflowing sewerage from the pipeline system.

“The repair and upgrading works have been previously discussed by the state government, and we have allocated RM25mil to repair all the amenities here, including the STP.

“But it was not on the priority list of work, so on Sunday (Aug 20), the Public Works Department will notify KPRJ to conduct a clean-up of the STP as a temporary measure.

“I have also discussed this matter with Johor Works and Transportation Committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh to bring the upgrading and repair project forward,” he said.

He said this when met by reporters after visiting the EDL apartment here on Saturday (Aug 19).

There are 2,720 housing units in the apartment blocks that are divided into four areas, namely Pangsapuri Desa Jaya (320 units), Pangsapuri Desa Dato Hajah Hasnah (1,120), Pangsapuri Desa Melayu (640), and Pangsapuri Desa Belantik (640), with a total population of more than 10,000 residents.
