KUALA LUMPUR: The action of a PAS leader who allegedly labelled Muslims as "anti-Islam" is damaging the religion's image, says Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa.
The Amanah vice-president said that the Federal Government was obligated to protect Islam from any negative elements that could harm its good name.
Mujahid said this in response to Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Nassuruddin Daud who labelled Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional candidates in the state as "those who are against Islamic struggles" (hok lawe perjuangen Isle).
"It is clear that takfiri siyasi (infidel politics) dominate the thinking of the Kelantan government, which assumes that its political opponents do not fight for Islam and that they (PAS) are the only ones who are doing so.
"Takfiri siyasi divides society and sullies the image of Islam.
"The people of Kelantan have made a decision and we respect their choice but it is the responsibility of the Federal Government to rebuke elements that can affect Islam as the religion of the federation," he said in a statement on Saturday (Aug 19).
In a short video taken during a lecture on Friday (Aug 18), Nassuruddin declared PAS' victories in the recent six state elections as a victory for Islam.
He made the claim in reference to the two seats Pakatan-Barisan won in Kelantan, namely Amanah's Dr Hafidzah Mustakim in Kota Lama and Umno's Mohd Syahbudin Hashim in Galas.
