Teen nabbed over fatal stabbing of nine-year-old in Ranau

KOTA KINABALU: A teenager has been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of his nine-year-old brother in the Ranau district some 130km from here.

The incident reportedly took place at their house in Kampung Kinapulidan at about 5.40am on Thursday (Aug 17).

Ranau Police Chief Deputy Supt Simiun Lomudin said the victim was rushed to the district hospital by a neighbour but he succumbed to his injuries at 11.10am.

He said police received a report from another brother, claiming the victim was stabbed by his own sibling.

"The boy was stabbed in the stomach by his 19-year-old brother with a knife while they were in the living room.

"We are still investigating the motive of the incident. We have not ruled out the possibility that the suspect has mental health issues," he said.

DSP Simiun urged those with information pertaining to the incident to contact the police.

He added that the probe has been framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
