Fireman killed in head-on collision with car

ALOR GAJAH: A newly-engaged fireman was killed on his way home from work due to a head-on collision with a car here.

Alor Gajah OCPD Supt Arshad Abu identified the 25-year-old victim as Muhammad Hafize Muhamad Sabri from Pulau Gadong Klebang Besar in Melaka Tengah.

He said the victim was killed on the spot after a car driven by a 37-year-old driver lost control and skidded before overturning at the stretch at 8.20am on Sunday (Aug 20).

Supt Arshad said the victim died due to severe head and body injuries when the car rammed and dragged him to the side of the road.

He said the victim was riding his machine on the opposite side of the road while the car's driver was on his way to Paya Mengkuang here.

"The victim was riding back to his home in Pulau Gadong after completing his work at the fire station," he said.

Supt Arshad said the weather at the time of the accident was fine.

He added the accident is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
