‘Homeless traveller’ ordered to do community service for trespassing

KOTA KINABALU: A 48-year-old man who said he became homeless after he was robbed on holiday in Sabah was ordered to do a month of community service for trespassing into the Marina Sutera Harbour golf course here.

Mansor Chee Man told Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles, he had come from Kulim, Kedah to the state but lost all his money when he was robbed and became homeless.

"I had a job," he said when Magistrate Lovely asked how he was able to travel without money.

Mansor also said he was unaware of entering a restricted area at the golf course.

Police prosecutor Insp Kelvan Elson Maik confirmed to the court that Mansor was robbed on May 26, 2023.

Mansor had pleaded guilty to trespassing on the golf course in Marina Sutera Harbour at about 2.50am on Aug 15, 2023.

The offence was framed under Section 447 of the Penal Code that provides a maximum jail term of six months or a fine of up to RM3,000, or both, upon conviction.

Lovely ordered him to serve a one-month compulsory attendance order for community service.

Mansor was represented by Carmen Khoo from the National Legal Aid Foundation who urged the court for leniency as he was a first-time offender and had no money to pay the fine.
